I Have A Dental Emergency- What Do I Do?

When you knock out a tooth or are suffering from tooth pain, you need answers: "What should I do with the tooth?” and “Can it be reattached?” and "How long will I be in pain?”

While conditions like a small chip can wait, intense tooth pain cannot. At Southfield Family Dental Center, we work hard to ensure that all of our patients can get the emergency care that they need, when they need it.

Read on to learn what we advise our patients to do in an emergency:

Tooth Pain
When you start to feel any pain in a tooth, you need to come to our office to get professional treatment. Until then, ice the tooth for temporary relief.

Loosened or Missing Adult Teeth
If your tooth (or teeth) feel noticeably loose or you’ve knocked them out, it’s important to get professional dental attention as soon as possible. Until you can get into our office, keep the tooth by its crown by holding it in place with a clean cloth. If it will not stay, keep the tooth under your tongue.

Broken or Cracked Teeth
If you have a broken or cracked tooth, you need to visit our office right away so that we can try to reattach it. At the first sign of the problem, rinse your mouth with lukewarm water and put an ice pack on the affected area. If you still have the broken tooth, wrap it in a wet towel and bring it to our office.

If you’re experiencing a dental emergency, contact Southfield Family Dental Center today. We offer extended office hours to facilitate emergencies and will be able to provide the relief that you need!
