Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Dental Implant?

A Dental Implant is a small, sturdy, titanium screw like post that is placed into your jawbone. Once the bone in your jaw has grown around the dental implant, it acts like the root of a natural tooth.....then a crown, bridge or denture is put in place.

Dental Implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth that will keep you smiling for life. They are very durable and can last a lifetime, however they do require the same attention as natural teeth. It is important to brush, floss and continue with regular dental check-ups. Patients like dental implants because they never slip or shift in your mouth while eating and speaking.

Why would someone get a Dental Implant?

Reasons you may be a candidate for or consider Dental Implants:

  • Replace one or more teeth
  • Provide support for a partial denture
  • Improve the support and stability of full upper or lower denture
  • Enhance chewing comfort
  • Gain confidence while smiling, talking and eating
  • Improve appearance
  • Regain overall confidence

Without the presence or the root system of a natural tooth, the jaw can shrink and your remaining teeth can shift and start to lay down. The shrinkage will make you look much older than it is and the shifting teeth will cause occlusion problems with your bite (or the way your teeth come together). Occlusion issues cause problems with eating properly as well as possible pain and tenderness.

How much do Dental Implants cost?

Here at Southfield Family Dental Center we are offering an $1600 savings per implant. On average for South East Michigan, a single dental implant costs $1750. We are offering that same dental implant to you for $399.

The cost of a tooth replacement with dental implants is dependent on several factors including the number of teeth being replaced and the number of dental implants required to support the new teeth. Some additional procedures may be necessary for the placement of your dental implants and to ensure the long-term health of your dental implants.

Who is typically a candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental Implant candidates are typically folks who have one or missing teeth due to an injury or decay. The determining factor will be the amount of available bone.

How old is too old to get Dental Implants?

Your overall health is more of a determining factor than your age. If you're healthy enough to have a tooth extracted, then you're probably healthy enough for implants. There are however, certain chronic diseases that may keep you from receiving dental implants. Dr. Levi or Dr. Oleg will be able to assess your health history when you come in for your FREE consultation.

Why would Dental Implants be more beneficial for me than dentures or a dental bridge?

Dental Implants provide improved appearance that dentures and dental bridges don't. When an entire tooth (along with crown and root) is missing, there will be shrinking of your jawbone that will cause your face to look older. Fortunately, dental implants can stop this process where a traditional dental bridge or dentures cannot.

Dental Implants preserve your natural teeth. With a traditional bridge, the teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth are ground down and used as anchors for the dental bridge. A dental implant eliminates the need to change those healthy teeth.

Dental Implants are a permanent solution whereas dentures and dental bridges are temporary. There are no removable parts with a dental implant so there is no worry of loosing or breaking anything. The dental implant is permanent and stable and does not need any adjusting as a dental bridge or dentures. Dental implants are intended to be with you for life.

How will Dental Implants affect my life?

Dental Implant supported teeth look and feel natural and will function naturally as well. You will be able to eat and drink whatever you like without any complications or discomfort. The most wonderful improvement will be how you feel about your smile and your overall appearance. If you were self-contious or embarrassed by your teeth, your self-esteem will soar as you smile your way through the rest of your life.

Will my new teeth look natural?

When dental implants are used in combination with modern restorative dentistry, their appearance, comfort, and function will most likely surprise you. When done correctly, they are hard to tell apart from your natural teeth.

Will I be able to chew naturally or will I have to be more careful?

The dental implant will feel natural in every way and after a brief adjustment period, you won't even know that it's there. Chewing, biting and talking will all be natural and comparible to your natural teeth.

How much time is required for a Dental Implant placement?

The surgical placement of a Dental Implant is generally a 6 month commitment. The bone and gums need time to heal before placing the permanent crown. Fear will not have to walk around with a gaping hole where your tooth should be. We will give you a temporary tooth that looks real until your healing is complete.

Is Dental Implant treatment painful?

As with any surgery there is some discomfort and a healing process. Most patients share that they were much more comfortable than they had anticipated. Dr. El-Mahrouky will prescribe medication to ease the discomfort that my occur.

How will I feel after the treatment?

It's normal to have some bruising and swelling of your gums and soft tissue and is typically treated with an ordinary pain reliever. Most patients are able to return to work the next day.

How will I care for my Dental Implants?

You will take care of your new teeth just as you should your natural teeth by brushing and flossing at least twice a day and coming into the office every six months for a Hygiene appointment to have your teeth cleaned.
